Help & Info about Internet Explorer 8 for Windows

  • How do I delete my web browser history with Internet Explorer 8?

You can do it manually without even opening your web browser by going to your Internet options on your control panel on Windows and deleting your web browser history and temp files that way. Or, you click the cog on the top right of your web browser and select the Internet Options menu item, and that will take you to the screen where you may clear your web browser history, temp files, and so on.

  • How do I add items to my Favourites more quickly?

Press and hold CRTL, and press “d” to open up the Favourites saving options. You may then click the button to save the web page, or you may select which Favourites folder it is saved into, and you may rename the web page before saving too.

  • Is there a faster way of deleting my browsing history or a way to do it automatically?

Press and hold CRTL, and press and hold SHIFT, and while pressing them, you press DELETE. This will bring up the option to delete your web browser history, temp files, and much more. Also, on the Internet Options menu (click the cog at the top right to find your Internet Options), you may tick a box that says “Delete browsing history on exit” which will then delete your browsing history whenever you close your IE window.

  • What does the padlock mean in the address bar at the top?

It is the website information and may help you understand if you are able to trust the website you have visited. You can see if the website you are visiting is actually the website you wished to visit with the padlock’s website information. It is a common trick for websites to masquerade as other websites.

  • How do I know which version of IE I am using?

Click the cog on the top right of your web browser and at the bottom of the drop-down menu there is a selection called, “About Internet Explorer.” It will show you what version of IE you are using.

  • Is Internet Explorer 8 less secure now that it is unsupported?

It is less secure because it does not have the updates that the more modern version of IE has. With that said, if hackers do not know which version of IE you are using, then it is more difficult for them to exploit your web browser.

  • Is there a way to make web pages work correctly on Internet Explorer 8?

Click the cog on the top right of your web browser and click the option that says, “Compatibility View settings.” This will allow you to change your compatibility settings in a manner that may allow some websites to work correctly on Internet Explorer 8. How do I zoom in and out with Internet Explorer 8

  • How do I update my version of IE?

Your Microsoft update schedule should update your IE automatically. You may also set automatic updates using the “About Internet Explorer” option too. Click the cog on the top right of your web browser and at the bottom of the drop-down menu there is a selection called, “About Internet Explorer.” If you have Internet Explorer 8, it will show a small tick box asking if you would like to update automatically.

  • Why won't some websites work with Internet Explorer 8?

The fact is that Internet Explorer 8 is out of date. There have been web coding updates and template updates that Internet Explorer 8 is simply unable to handle. Some websites will not work with this version of IE because it simply doesn't have the capacity to load or run the websites it is being fed.

Softonic

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
